Proverbs 17:11
Evil people are eager for rebellion, but they will be severely punished.
“Absalom's story is about a young man who became famous for organizing a rebellion against his father, King David.
Absalom had complete responsibility for his wicked choices. His father, King David, had an undeniable influence on him. Unwanted suffering arose from his unwillingness to embrace leadership responsibilities for his children.
David's failure highlights the importance of justice and integrity in our roles as parents and leaders—in front of our children and everyone who observes us.
Even when their children reject the values in which they were educated, the tragic finale of David and Absalom's story reminds us of parents' deep and abiding love for their offspring. We learn about God and other things in this world through our relationships with our parents.
We learn to love others, particularly members of our own families, close friends, and spiritual community members.
We must be mindful of our children's feelings and the impact our words and actions may have on them as parents. We need to make time for them, affirm, encourage, and pray for them to grow in their understanding and fear of God.
Paul reminds us of how to act as a father in our families and in the Ecclesia.
“But if anyone doesn’t provide for his own, and especially his own household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever” (I Timothy 5:8)
Christ's Obedience
Our great example is Jesus, who totally followed his earthly parents and humbled himself under the powerful hand of his heavenly Father. Despite the fact that he was perfect and had imperfect parents, he obeyed his parents.
“And he went down with them and came to Nazareth and was obedient to them,” And all of these things were treasured in his mother's heart.” (Luke 2:51)
How confident are we in our ability to lead our child?
How well does our child obey and follow our commands?
Why does God want us to honor our parents?
