2 Corinthians 4

Bro Jonifer Natividad

The word "light" is commonly used in the Bible to refer to that which brings spiritual enlightenment to those who are in spiritual darkness.

Bro. Jonifer gives us three great example who bring light into the world.

1. God (The source of light)

2. Jesus

3. Believers

God as the Source of Light

God has shown Himself to be the light of the world since from the very beginning of creation.

Genesis 1:3-4
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.

God's nature and character are defined by light. He is the source of all Lights. All light comes from Him.

1 John 1:5
God is light; in him there is no darkness at all”

Jesus Christ as Light

Our Lord, Jesus Christ, demonstrated to us how to become the light of the world. He let that light shine in his lives by reflecting God's light so that everyone could see the light - that is God's character.

2 Corinthians 4:6
For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,”[a] made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.

Believers as light

Matthew 5:14–16
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.
Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

What does Jesus mean when he says "You are the light of the world”

What does he expect his disciple to fulfill?

Jesus refers to His disciples as light and light-bearers, encouraging believers to let their light shine so that the world sees God in them and glorifies Him.

Galatians 5 demonstrates the spirit of the light that we should have within us.

“22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 gentleness and self-control.”

Bro. Jonifer also gives us some examples of people who do not have light but surrounded by darkness.

Because of his anger, Absalom killed his brother. (2 Sam. 13)

This story is an example of us, keeping our anger from our brothers and sisters and not having room in our hearts for forgiveness. It demonstrates that we are walking in the darkness.

In John 2:9-11 says, If we hate our brethren, we are walking in the darkness.

9 Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister[b] is still in the darkness.
10 Anyone who loves their brother and sister[c] lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble.
11 But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness. They do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them.

Our Lord Jesus Christ, who received the light from God and showed it to his disciples, sets an example for us on how to become light bearers in the world.

We embody the same light when we show God's love to our brothers and sisters, where Jesus fully fulfills this love even the cost is his own life.

We are blessed to have this light; let us walk together as we bear our lights so that darkness does not have a place in us.

Brothers and sisters, we must not allow darkness (sin) to cover our hearts; instead, we must remain in the light (life)
