There are many people all around us who need to be exposed to the gospel of truth and have it explained to them so that they can believe and obey it. Our task is like that of Paul and Apollos, simply to plant and water and allow God to give the increase (1 Corinthians 3:6). It is a challenge to all aspiring disciples of Christ to share the vital message of the Gospel, with confidence and without fear (Philippians 1:14).
Last February 28 to March 1, 2020 the Bible Education Centers Philippines hosted a three-day workshop on “Public Speaking Enhancement & Capacity Building”. It was held in the newly built Kalilangan Ecclesial, Hall, Kinura, Bukidnon. Brethren from different ecclesias in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao participated.
“Preach the Word without fear” was the theme of the workshop which was planned and coordinated by the BEC team. It aimed to provide the participants with practical skills and knowledge in preparing and presenting Bible talks and to express themselves clearly with confidence in a variety of speaking activities in the ecclesia. This included preaching through Bible seminars, studies and leading discussion groups. The role and function of chairmen was also reviewed. A folder summarizing the key points from each workshop was also provided to the participants.
It is our responsibility as brothers and sisters to actively support the Master’s work. The participants willingly accepted the challenge and the master’s call. Mark 16:15 – “And he said unto them, “go ye into the world, and preach the Gospel into every creature”, Luke 4:43 – “ And he said unto them, “I must preach the Kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore I am sent.” We all need to accept the Master’s challenge and shoulder our responsibilities as his disciples to preach the gospel and uphold the Faith in these last days before our Master returns.
The dedicated local brethren saw the need to enhance their speaking skills and presentation styles to capture the many more people thirsting to understand the message of the scripture. We all need to be confident to speak the word without fear.
The brethren were given step by step guidelines on how to prepare for public speaking, exercises and tips to build their confidence and to overcome anxiety. Characteristics and how to be an effective Bible study leader were also discussed. They were given samples and tips on preparing presentations for Bible studies and seminars. Best practices on presiding and giving exhortations were also given priority. Workshops enabled them to model group discussions and share ideas and reflections based on the Bible message and the theme assigned to them.
