"I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." - John 15:5
One of the most definite connections you can have is having someone to be with and someone to look into. It combines the spirits of two or more people into a single body. As someone who is designed to make connections, you need a binding element that appeals to others rather than repelling them, and that then guides you both towards forming a relationship.
Fellowship is a friendly association, especially with people who continually share a common interest. As Christadelphians, we value our relationships with our brothers and sisters as well. In the words of the Lord Jesus Christ, "Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?". Pointing to his disciples, he said, "Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother."
Jesus had sensed the presence of those who were willing to walk in his footsteps and serve the same God he did; his disciples. They were treated as if they were his biological relatives. That is one of Jesus' most well-known quotes from the Bible, in which he establishes a long-term relationship with others.
But why is it necessary to establish a good relationship?
Adapted from Bro Ern's context:
1. It increases our emotional well-being
2. It strengthen one's character
3. We can have good friends
4. Having someone on whom you can rely.
5. Make you feel included (sense of belonging)
When you feel included or have a sense of belonging, it can be overpowering, in which two or more people are confined to a single spot. After everyone has established a good and a positive relationship, they can now apply the spirit of fellowship.
1. Don't forsake gathering and encouraging one another. (Hebrews 10:25)
2. Pray for everyone, including those in authority. (1 Tim 2:1)
3. How to handle a situation in which a brother sinned. (Matthew 18:15-17)
4. Love one another - just as Jesus loved us (John 13:34)
5. Bear with one another and forgive (Col 3:12-14)
So as a Christadelphian, what does "fellowship" truly mean?
