Bro Jodel James
Who was James in the life of the Lord Jesus Christ?
James in the Bible:
1. James, the son of Zebedee, one of original Twelve Apostles
2. James, the son of Alphaeus, also one of twelve
3. James, the father of Thaddeus/Judas (not Iscariot)
4. James, the brother of Jesus/James, the brother of Jude
"But other of the apostles saw I none, save James the Lord's brother."
Galatians 1:19
(Reading the book of Galatians, we have learned how great leader James was.)
Let us define the word Family:
Family- a group of people united by certain convictions or a common affiliation; FELLOWSHIP
The family consists of the people who support and love you, and the people you can confide in and trust.
What do you think James family look like?
In John 2:12-13
- we can see the closeness of Jesus and his family.
Although Jesus and his family had a good relationship, the book of Psalms records that Jesus metaphorically became a stranger to his own family.
Psa 69:8 "I am become a stranger unto my brethren, and an alien unto my mother's children."
(NT) (1) The failure of Christ's own brethren in the flesh to support him: Mar 3:21,31,32; Mat 4:13; 10:36; Joh 7:3-5; Deu 33:9. (2) Differently, and more generally, the rejection of Christ by the whole nation of his fellow-Jews: Joh 1:11; 8:48; 9:29; 18:40; 19:15; Isa 53:3; Luk 4:23,24,28,29.
When their purpose was unmistakable Jesus turned and faced them. They fell away before the awful majesty of his aspect. . . He walked through their midst and made his lonely way over the mountains towards Capernaum. Nazareth, like Jerusalem, had not known the day of her visitation, and she was to suffer the condemnation of Christ's neglect. He had come to his own and his own had not received him. No longer was Nazareth to be called his city, that honour was reserved for the hometown of his disciples James and John, Peter and Andrew, the town whose synagogue was the gift of a benevolent Roman, presided over by the believing Jairus, the town where even now the nobleman's family was rejoicing over the restoration of its son, and showing an active belief in Jesus. True, Capernaum was not worthy of him, and was yet to be the subject of his condemnation. But no city or place will be worthy of the coming of the Son of Man until the day he comes to fill the earth with God's glory and bring in everlasting righteousness and peace.
